The new ship unloader supplied by TAIM-TFG is now operative at the TPS

The TAIM-TFG ship unloader has been fully operative at the TPS solid minerals terminal in the Tarragona Port since May this year. This impressive machine completes and reinforces the fleet of machinery in the coal terminal of this major logistics operator.
After successfully passing all the required tests, both empty and loaded, the ship unloader manufactured by TAIM-TFG began working at the TPS Coal Terminal at the Tarragona Port where it has been fully operative since last May.
The new unloader, weighing 1,500 t, with an unloading capacity of 2,500 t/h feeds coal to the stockyard with a turnover capacity of approximately 140,000 t/week. It is the largest of the four unloaders which have been operating until now in the terminal and its productivity is equal to the sum of all of them together.
During the preliminary tests, the machine performed in a robust, quick and reliable fashion. After finalization of the testing period, the first ship to be unloaded was carrying 70,000 tons and unloading was completed in 28 hours.
The new machine is located on the Muelle de Cataluña of the Tarragona Port, next to the Control Tower at the entrance of the Port. The minerals arrive at the Tarragona Port on large ships coming in from high quality coal production regions, such as South Africa or South America, and are later distributed from the TPS stockyard to power stations in Eastern Spain, the Balearic Islands and Southern Italy.
TAIM-TFG and TPS have a long-standing business relationship initiated in 1998, during which the Company from Zaragoza has taken charge of comprehensive services, engineering, design, manufacture, as well as the construction and launching of various port facilities for handling and storing raw materials. It is in this setting that the new unloader forms part of an extensive mechanized park where the equipment is supplied entirely by TAIM-TFG, consisting of a coal transport circuit running from the pier to the stockyard and the ship loading area by means of 12 conveyor belts, 1 stacker, 2 trippers and 1 shiploader

Technical Specifications
The new unloader features traditional “Rope Trolley” design with a four rope bucket and is equipped with the latest in primary and emergency safety mechanisms. In addition it is outfitted with remote control technology to assist in its technical service and maintenance by allowing the essential parameters of the machinery to be seen on Internet. As far as the technical characteristics of the gantry are concerned, it has a capacity under ropes of 50 t; a crane travel speed of 25m/min and a span of 43+18+33 m. The lifting height is 23+23 m and the approximate boom luffing time is 7.5 min. The trolley travel speed is 240m/min, with a lifting speed of 130-170 m/min. The total installed power is 2.300 kW.
